STEVEN'S BLOG
We all need a goal in life, don’t we? Especially poor old John Terry, but that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about life goals, be they big or small.
Now what constitutes a goal? Well, I suppose that is for you to decide. One person’s idea of a goal might be another person’s idea of a hobby or even a nightmare. Whatever. But I do think we all do need to have goals in our lives, or else we are just meandering through our lives, doing the same bloody thing day after day, and before you know it, “Hey, where’d my hair go?”
We need to have short-term goals like getting in shape, finishing that study course or learning how to play golf. We cannot just work the whole day to come home and be drowned by children and advertisements and some ineffective plonk. We need to strive for things in our lives or else what is the point? So vote for Steven. He will make it happen…
Yeah yeah, and the truth shall set you free. I have some goals in my life, some I never seem to attain, some I do, and some are in the process of being attained. But these are mostly short-term goals and once they are achieved or realised, what next? That’s why I have to have a long-term goal. And just what the hell is this long-term goal?
I’m gonna work my arse off (I should be so lucky) until the age of Aquarius and then retire and live on strudel and talk about the good old days when petrol was only R10.00 a litre! Of course, that’s not really a goal. Yes, it is important but that will happen by itself, unless I go all postal here at work.
Truth be told, I don’t really have a long-term goal. I suppose I will just be happy to end up healthy, relatively wealthy, and hopefully wise. I will want to see my boys grow up into good men, and not to make the same mistakes I did, even though it’s their own lives and they will bump their heads. I just hope they don’t bump them as hard as I did.
And when I die, if there are any organs left still functioning, they can donate them to whoever wants them. I will have not be needing them. Mind you, there are a couple of organs that I’m not even using now. Touché. |

It has been duly noted that I have been rather inconspicuous of late. Please accept my humble apology for my lack of the written word. I have no excuses, no reasons and no alibis. Just a bit of slack. That is all.
So, what is happening in the life of Riley these days? I suppose more of the same, and then some. Besides work and family life, it seems I hardly have a moment to scratch my arse anymore. But it's all good. It keeps me out of trouble.
Of course, all work and no play makes John a dull boy. There must be some respite from the trials and tribulations of this rat race. Surely there must be? Well, at the moment I'm trying this virtuous thing called patience and seeing if it's actually worth it. I'll get back to you on that one.
In the meantime, it's nose to the grindstone. Working hard (on occasion), studying hard (again, on occasion, but actually enjoying it now that the old brain is in use again), and always trying to be a better person. Always? Well.......
So I've been going to the gym three times a week, I run 7 kilometres every morning, and I'm training to be a qualified yeah-right. The only exercise I seem to get these days is keeping the kids occupied. I'll just keep using that old chestnut "I haven't got the time."
Or the pluck. But on a lighter note, will this be the year that the Stormers finally do something in the Super 14. As it currently stands, they are 4th on the log and just have to keep that winning feeling to make the semi-finals. Here's hoping they do it.
And with that, I bid y'all Adieu. This is Riley John signing off. |
