By: Joan Fretz, LI SEL Forum | January 2, 2006
|
| Peer Leadership activities exist in almost every secondary school. Whether it’s Natural Helpers, Peer Mediation, Teen Teachers, Service Learning, Student Government or any other student led activity, the school and the individual student leaders gain much from the experience. Effective leadership activities help students develop strong social skills, model appropriate behavior, identify personal interests, and feel connected and respected in school. A peer leadership experience is a natural motivator for the high achiever. More importantly, it is a powerful confidence builder for our quiet and “at-risk” students.
